Maureen Callahan VanderMay is one of The VanderMay Law Firm's principals. She is a 1985 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where she served on the law review. Ms. VanderMay's undergraduate degree is from the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. At Santa Cruz, Ms. VanderMay majored in philosophy.
Ms. VanderMay served as a judicial clerk to The Honorable Alfred T. Goodwin of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Following her clerkship, she practiced with the Seattle office of Perkins Cole in the area of complex civil litigation. In 1989, Ms. VanderMay left the private practice of law to join the faculty of Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon. She remained on the faculty until 1999, when she returned to the full-time practice of law. While at Willamette, Ms. VanderMay was granted tenure and afforded the rank of Professor of Law. She taught primarily in the areas of constitutional law, administrative law, professional responsibility, and land use. Ms. VanderMay is a nationally recognized scholar in the areas of constitutional and administrative law and was awarded a Fulbright fellowship. Under her Fulbright grant, Ms. VanderMay was a scholar in residence at the Indian Law Institute in New Delhi, India.
Ms. VanderMay's areas of concentration at The VanderMay Law Firm include immigration, civil litigation, administrative law, and professional licensing defense. She handles the firm's cases in California and Washington, a portion of its Hawai'i work, and most of its appellate work. She also drafts a considerable amount of the firm's legal memoranda.
Ms. VanderMay is admitted to practice in the states of Oregon, California, Washington, and Hawai'i and before various federal courts. She also practices regularly before the U.S. Immigration Court in Portland, Oregon, and the Board of Immigration Appeals in Falls Church, Virginia.
When not practicing law, Ms. VanderMay enjoys cooking, cycling, running, and Nordic skiing.
